Raila passed away on October 15 while undergoing treatment in India due to cardiac arrest.

Gachagua, who had remained notably absent from public events during the mourning period, had only issued condolences via his social media platforms.

Sources close to the former deputy president cited security concerns, alleging that there were plans to attack him if he visited the bereaved family or attended the funeral.

However, on Saturday, November 1, Gachagua made a public appearance at the burial of six family members who tragically died when their vehicle plunged into a river in Kariara village, Murang’a county.

Did Gachagua warn Ruto against insults?

During the emotional ceremony, Gachagua seized the moment to launch a fierce criticism of President William Ruto, accusing him of disrespecting Mt. Kenya leaders and their constituents.

Gachagua condemned Ruto’s alleged remarks referring to Mt. Kenya leaders as impure-hearted, calling them deeply offensive and unjustified.

He reminded the president that the region had fully supported his bid during the 2022 elections and deserved respect, not ridicule.

“You should know we are not impure in hearts. It is you who has tainted our hearts. And to prove that our hearts are now truly tainted, you will see in August 2027,” Gachagua declared, warning of political consequences.

He further expressed disappointment in local leaders who continue to cheer Ruto despite his alleged insults toward the community.

Gachagua also accused the president of misusing public funds and failing in leadership, claiming that many Kenyans are increasingly dissatisfied with the current administration.

In a more alarming accusation, the DCP boss alleged that Ruto had tampered with laws meant to curb drug abuse, leading to increased substance misuse in the region.

“You said alcohol should return here to kill our children because you hate us. We are deeply saddened because the sword we gave you as a community is now being used to harm us,” he lamented.

Gachagua’s continued criticism of the government reignites questions of unity among the Mt. Kenya leaders in the DCP and UDA parties.
