Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly Robert Alai has come under fire following controversial remarks accusing senior ODM officials of orchestrating efforts to dismantle the party’s leadership.

Alai alleged that ODM’s secretary general Edwin Sifuna and his allies are using acting party leader and Siaya senator Oburu Oginga to weaken the party from within.
Oburu assumed leadership of ODM after the sudden death of party leader Raila Odinga, who passed away while receiving treatment in India.

In the wake of Raila’s death, internal divisions have emerged over the party’s direction.
Sifuna and his faction have insisted that ODM will field a candidate in the upcoming elections, while others have pushed for alignment with the broad-based coalition formed in Raila’s presence.
What did Alai say about ODM’s future?
According to Alai, the party will not be in existence by 2027.
“Oburu Oginga is being used by Sifuna and his team to destroy ODM. By 2027, they will leave ODM a shell,” Alai said.
His comments sparked outrage among ODM supporters, many of whom recalled that Alai had previously endorsed Oburu’s appointment.
The critics accused him of hypocrisy and called for his resignation from the party, with some urging him to formally join President William Ruto’s UDA party, which he has publicly defended.
Meanwhile, Raila’s close allies dismissed the broad-based coalition narrative, asserting that no such party exists and warning leaders to stop promoting the slogan ‘Tutam.’
