Kibunguchy served as an MP for 15 years before losing the seat to Innocent Mugabe in 2022.

For which seat will Kibunguchy vie in 2027

Speaking exclusively to TUKO.co.ke on Monday, November 3, the former MP said he would be seeking a return to the National Assembly in the 2027 General Election.

He said his decision to vie for the seat has been informed by what he termed the current MP’s poor performance.

He claimed most of the projects he initiated had been abandoned.

“I’m back to reclaim that seat, as since the current MP was elected, none of the projects I had initiated have been completed,” Kibunguchy said.

According to the former legislator, during his reign, focus was on improving the education sector, but that is no longer the case under Mugabe’s leadership.

Among the initiatives Kibunguchy was undertaking was the provision of laptops to all first-year students in his constituency.

“I am sure residents are missing my companionship and charity works,” the former MP told TUKO.co.ke.

Kibunguchy served as an MP, elected on the FORD Kenya ticket.

However, he recently ditched the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula-led political vehicle and joined the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), which he is expected to use in 2027.

How old is Enock Kibunguchy?

In response to concerns that he is too old to be an MP, Kibunguchy, 72, said his age makes him a perfect leader for the people.

“I have re-energised myself to serve Likuyani people again,” he said.

Likuyani MP Innocent Mugabe, however, dismissed Kibunguchy’s plans to unseat him in 2027.

Mugabe, elected on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket, also downplayed claims that he has a poor development record.

The legislator said that when he assumed office after the 2022 General Election, most Likuyani roads were in poor condition, and he has now improved them.

He also claimed that the former MP’s poor relationship with the then-Governor Wycliffe Oparanya led to the region being sidelined in county-financed development projects.

“I have worked for my people, and everyone can see that we had poor roads during the former MP’s era. I have not fixed them, and I have been lobbied for more development from the national and the county government. My voters are happy,” Mugabe said.

Kwanza MP eying fourth term

Previously, TUKO.co.ke reported that Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi had announced plans to vie for the fourth term in 2027.

Wanyonyi was first elected in 2013 and has won re-election twice, in 2017 and 2022.

Should he win the seat in 2027, he will be among the longest-serving MPs not only in Trans Nzoia but also nationally.
