Times of India records that the accused had previously proposed to several women, even faking his death to one.
Reddy was arrested on October 15, six months after his wife, 29-year-old dermatologist Kruthika Reddy, died under mysterious circumstances on April 21.
How Mahendra killed wife
Police say he allegedly administered high levels of Propofol, a powerful anesthetic drug, to Kruthika at their home before rushing her to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.
The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report later confirmed traces of Propofol in Kruthika’s organs, suggesting a deliberate act.
During a search of their residence, investigators recovered medical items including a cannula set and injection tubes, evidence they say was key to cracking the case.
Following the FSL findings, Kruthika’s father filed a formal complaint accusing his son-in-law of murder, NDTV reports.

“He brought her to the hospital and did not mention anything that could have indicated foul play. Now we know she was injected with sedatives, which shows a malicious intent,” he said.
The couple, both doctors at Victoria Hospital, had been married for less than a year, tying the knot on May 26 last year.
Investigators believe Mahendra used his medical expertise to make his wife’s death appear natural, a plan that ultimately unraveled under forensic scrutiny.
Police say the investigation is ongoing as they piece together the events that led a promising marriage, and two medical careers, to a tragic and chilling end.
Bomet man jailed for killing wife
In an unrelated story, a 55-year-old Bomet man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for the brutal murder of his wife in Konoin on the night of October 7, 2020.
The prosecution argued that Robert Kipkorir Tonui had carefully planned and executed the cold-blooded murder by dousing his wife, Emmy Chepkoech Mitei, with petrol and setting her ablaze.
High Court Judge Justice Julius Ng’arng’ar rejected Tonui’s claims that he had no motive for the crime and that the prosecution had failed to present enough evidence.
The court concluded that Tonui must have known that setting his wife, who was also a deputy headteacher, on fire would result in death and that his actions clearly demonstrated his intent to kill.
