Mboza’s mum appreciates support system
She was not only informed about her daughter’s death but was also asked to fetch her body from the school.
“I am not coping at all. I do not even know what day it is. I just sleep and wake up. Luckily, I have a very strong support system.
My family is here; they are helping me move from day to day, but I am not coping,” Mboza’s mum said.
She recounted receiving the call on Friday, October 31.
Mboza’s mum narrates last call with daughter
“I had not communicated with her for the past two days, and I kept sending her messages, but she was not responding. On Friday, I got a strange urge to be more forceful because I had everybody’s number. I was asking them to give me answers, to go check on her in the room. They said she was not opening, and apparently, the door was locked.
It was later that I got a call from the owner of the property to inform me that my daughter was gone. Honestly, I do not know what he said after that, I completely lost it. It is the most heartbreaking thing that can happen to any parent. I do not think there is any human being who wants to get a call that your loved one is no more, especially a child that you had so much hope for. She was so smart and so self-aware,” Mboza’s mum recounted.
She stated that her daughter, a second-year student, had been abused shortly before she was found dead in the hostel.
“She called me at 3 a.m., crying, telling me what had happened. It took her a lot of strength to open up. She told me all about it, and I was so sad. It has really been difficult, but I have to be strong for my family and my daughter,” she added.
