As Kenyans continue to mourn renowned Kikuyu gospel singer Betty Bayo, her close friend has broken hearts after sharing a screenshot of her last message yesterday.

Betty died earlier today, Monday, November 10, after a battle with cancer, and the news of her death shocked her family, friends and Kenyans at large, who adored her gospel music.

Taking to Facebook, her close friend Njoki revealed that yesterday, Sunday, November 9, at 3.47pm, the singer sent her an M-Pesa message.

Njoki said she could barely bring herself to believe that Betty was dead, just less than 24 hours after she sent her the money.

In the screenshot, she hid the exact amount that Betty sent her, but Betty’s name, Beatrice Mbugua, was visible.

“Guys, this was just yesterday at 3:47 pm. Baayo, why?” she captioned her screenshot, adding crying emojis to show her heartbreak.

In another post, Njoki also shared a video of her heartwarming moments with the singer before her death.

In the video, the two were dancing to Betty’s beloved song Siyabonga.

“It is not well,” she captioned the video.

What is the cause of Betty Bayo’s death?

Earlier today, Betty’s close friends and family gathered at a press conference at the Kenyatta National Hospital to heartbreakingly announce her death.

Murang’a County Woman Representative Betty Maina spoke during the conference, confirming that Betty breathed her last a few minutes after 1pm today.

Maina was flanked by, among others, Betty’s widower Tash Gitau, Pastor Kanyari, her ex-husband, and her friends from the Kikuyu gospel scene.

“Betty has been unwell since last week. She suffered from excessive bleeding, but the doctors did their best,” Maina said while revealing the singer had suffered from leukaemia.
