The revelation was made by her close friend and fellow gospel artist Shiru Wa GP, who painfully narrated the events leading up to Betty’s final hours.

How much did hospital demand for Betty’s treatment?

Shiru disclosed that the Siyabonga hitmaker’s treatment was delayed because she could not immediately pay a cash deposit of KSh 260,000.

“Amidst the pain and discomfort, she walked herself downstairs, got her car keys, opened the main door and went to her car. That’s where she hooted loudly, waking her neighbours,” Shiru recounted.

One of the neighbours, sensing something was terribly wrong, rushed to her aid and drove her to the nearest private hospital along Kiambu Road.

Why Betty’s treatment delayed

What followed has left many Kenyans in disbelief. Despite her visible distress and critical condition, the hospital reportedly refused to admit her until the deposit was paid, in the middle of the night.

“They said they couldn’t start treatment until the deposit was made. Pesa kwanza,” Shiru revealed bitterly.

At the time, Shiru was fast asleep after a long and exhausting day, unaware that her friend was fighting for her life.

Betty’s husband, who was abroad, tried desperately to reach her and other close friends.
