CAF held its annual glitzy awards in Rabat, Morocco, on Wednesday evening, where Ruto was one of the many winners honoured during the ceremony.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe and his FIFA counterpart Gianni Infantino presented the award to Kenya’s ambassador to Morocco, Jessica Muthoni Gakinya, who represented Ruto at the ceremony.
Also honoured were Tanzanian and Ugandan presidents, Samia Suluhu and Yoweri Museveni. Like Ruto, the two were represented by senior government officials who collected their awards.
What is the CAF President’s Outstanding Achievement Award
The CAF Outstanding President Award was introduced by Motsepe in 2022 to recognise the role Heads of State play in supporting football in their country.
The inaugural recipients of the award were Rwanda President Paul Kagame, and King Mohammed VI of Morocco. Cameroon’s Paul Biya and Egypt’s Abdel Fattah El-Sisi won it last year.
What did Ruto do to win CAF President’s Outstanding Achievement Award?
Ruto, alongside his fellow East African presidents, were honoured for their contributions in ensuring the region hosted a successful African Nations Championship (CHAN) in August.
Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania hosted the entire continent in the tournament reserved for players who play in local leagues.

Achraf Hakimi wins CAF Player of the Year
Other winners at the event included Achraf Hakimi and Ghizzlane Chebbak, who were crowned the male and female athletes of the year.
Hakimi starred in the Paris Saint-Germain side that won the Champions League, among other honours, while Chebbak led her team to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final.
