The race has attracted a number of candidates, most notably United Democratic Alliance (UDA)’s David Ndakwa and Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K)’s Seth Panyako.
Ndakwa enjoys strong backing from the UDA, led by President William Ruto, as well as support from parts of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) that are now collaborating with the Ruto government.

Why did Caleb Amisi endorse Panyako for Malava MP?
In a significant development, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi announced his endorsement of Panyako for the parliamentary seat.
Amisi explained that his choice was motivated by the fact that DAP-K remains part of the Azimio La Umoja coalition, which supported former ODM leader Raila Odinga during the 2022 presidential elections.
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Amisi said, “I have endorsed Seth Panyako for the Malava seat. And I am calling on the ODM party to support the DAP-K candidate. DAP-K is part of the original Azimio coalition which is still in effect.”
He further urged unity among the Luhya community, emphasising the importance of solidarity ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“As the Luhya community, let us stay united ahead of the 2027 elections. Panyako is our candidate,” Amisi added.
Who is likely to win the Malava by-election?
Meanwhile, voter preference surveys indicate a closely contested race. On Wednesday, November 19, Mizani Africa released a poll tracking the popularity of candidates in the Malava by-election.
According to the survey conducted between November 13 and 15 among 700 respondents, Panyako leads with 47.2% support, while Ndakwa follows at 40.3%.
Other candidates collectively account for 3.1%, and the undecided voters stand at 9.4%, a segment that could prove decisive.
The survey also noted trends from earlier polling, with Panyako’s support rising from 44.7% to 47.2% and Ndakwa gaining from 37.9% to 40.3%, largely due to campaigns led by Ruto’s personal aide, Farouk Kibet.
Mizani Africa observed that the contest remains highly competitive, with both frontrunners actively courting the undecided voters.
