On Sunday, November 23, Ruto and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the Devki Steel Factory, Osukuru, Tororo District.

Why should William Ruto rule for 20 years

Addressing the gathering, the steel billionaire advocated for the change of constitution to allow Ruto to rule Kenya for 20 years.

The billionaire said that even though Kenyans attacked him on social media after he previously advocated for Ruto’s presidency, Ruto is the right person to lead Kenya for many years.

“I know the constitution does not allow it, but I will still say this: Ruto needs to serve for 20 years. The last time I said that Kenyans attacked me online, but if we want to end unemployment, we need such a person,” Naval said.

He went ahead to list some of Ruto’s key achievements, such as stabilising the Kenyan shilling and reducing the level of inflation.

“President William Ruto loves the people of Kenya. He has brought so many changes in Kenya, which no other president in th past could do. He has kept out currency stable for the longest period. He has reduced Kenya’s inflation, that is not magic, he hired experts and made the right decisions at the right time,” the businessman said.

What UDA said about presidential term limit

In a related development, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) distanced itself from the proposal to increase the presidential term limit.

In a strongly worded statement by UDA secretary general Hassan Omar, the ruling party rejected a proposed Constitutional Amendment Bill seeking to extend the current presidential term limit from five to seven years.

Omar described the bill sponsored by Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei as a “backward, retrogressive and primitive” initiative that threatens the democratic principles hard-fought for by the Kenyan people.
