A Kenyan woman who had been fighting a life-threatening blood disorder has died just days after making an emotional plea for blood and platelet donations on her Facebook page.

Nancy Karenga, who had been undergoing treatment at Nairobi West Hospital, died after a protracted battle with leukaemia.

Her son, Tevin Bobby, told TUKO.co.ke that her body is currently in Nyeri awaiting a requiem mass on Wednesday at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish in Ridgeways.

Nancy made her final post on November 17 at 5:07 pm, asking Kenyans to come to her aid as her condition rapidly deteriorated.
“Hey guys, am in need of platelets and blood. I already got internal bleeding. Please come save my life,” she wrote. It would be the last message she ever shared publicly.
Three days earlier, the 43-year-old had posted an urgent appeal for donors at the Nairobi Hospital Cancer Centre.
She revealed that she needed six units of blood but was haemolysing, meaning her body was destroying the blood she received.
“If you’re able to come and donate, please let them know the donation is for Nancy Wambui Karenga. Any blood group will do because they will exchange. Your help will mean so much,” she pleaded.

Before that, she had shared a deeply personal message describing the overwhelming fatigue and constant infections that had taken a toll on her body.
“I’m so tired. Even the little things I used to do with ease, like eating, now feel like climbing a mountain. My body is giving in, though my spirit is still willing to carry on,” she wrote.
Despite the exhaustion, Nancy remained hopeful that Kenyans would help her raise the funds needed for a bone marrow transplant, her only chance of survival.
Nancy’s battle began in 2023 when she was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome, a condition affecting the bone marrow’s ability to produce healthy blood cells.
Earlier this year, it progressed into Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, a fast-advancing and life-threatening cancer. Doctors warned that her time was limited without an urgent transplant.

She had already secured acceptance for treatment at Assalam International Hospital in Egypt, where the procedure would be carried out.
However, she needed KSh 8 million to cover the cost of the transplant, travel, and accommodation for both herself and her donor.
“Any contribution, no matter the size, will bring me closer to life and hope,” she appealed in her fundraiser message.
Friends, relatives, and well-wishers rallied to share her posts across social media, but the support came too late.
