Derrick Mbugua rallied support for the mum of three who were languishing in the cold at a tunnel in Kahawa Sukari and managed to help raise KSh 36,000 for her.
However, a few days after the woman received the hefty sum that was meant to help her get somewhere safe for her and the children, she is now back on the streets, shivering in the same cold together with her three young kids.
Mbugua revealed that he was surprised when he learnt about this development, and he visited the tunnel to confirm if it was true.
He found her with her kids and demanded to know what she did with the money.
“It is true that Kenyans helped me and gave me KSh 36,000. I am still figuring out I need some days,” she tried to explain.
She revealed that she has since donated part of the money to the church.
“I have used part of the money, and I also donated some of it to the church,” she said.
After a dressing down by Mbugua, the woman has since promised to ensure the kids stay at a secure home from now on.
“They will no longer come here from tomorrow,” she promised.
When did Derrick Mbugua first meet the needy woman?
The well-wisher promised to involve the chief if the woman is spotted on the streets with the children.
“You can come here to hustle if that’s what you want, but the kids cannot be here. It is cold, and some of them already have a cold, because of staying here till morning. I will involve the chief if I see them again,” he warned her, as she acquiescenced.
When Derrick ran into the woman and children less than a week ago, he was touched that she was still at the tunnel together with the children at 2.30am.
She explained that she needed to continue hustling so that she could provide for the needs of the children.
It was then that Mbugua started an online fundraiser that raised the KSh 36k for her.
Kenyans raise funds for Nairobi mum humiliated over 10 bob
In other news, Kenyans recently also raised funds to help a Nairobi mother who was humiliated in a matatu by a tout over 10 bob.
Valeria said that it all began when she was left with only KSh 40 in her pocket; KSh 20 for her morning fare, and KSh 20 for her return home.
The tout humiliated her, but when she shared the story on social media, Kenyans sent her KSh 5,000.
