The partly decomposed body of Jackline Ruguru, a college student in Embu, was found on the evening of Saturday, November 22, on a farm in Ngotho, Ngiriambu village.
How was Jackline Ruguru’s body discovered?
According to the residents, the body was found by a farm owner. He had reportedly gone to cut Napier grass for his livestock when he noticed a foul smell before discovering the remains.
Upon raising the alarm, villagers rushed to the scene, accompanied by Njukiini’s Member of County Assembly (MCA) Timothy Kariuki.
“I could not believe it when I saw a decomposing body without a right hand and other body parts,” one of the locals said.
On his part, Jackline’s father, Musa Kiura, who was overwhelmed with grief, said that he had spent days desperately searching for his daughter only to find her dead.
He revealed that Jackline had travelled home from Embu county, where she was a college student.
“She came home on Sunday and passed by the local church, where I was to pick up the house keys. Afterward, she never returned home. I reported the matter at Kiamutugu Police Station and have been searching for her ever since,” Kiura said.
“Today, I am shocked to find her decomposing body here, smelling terribly and with some parts missing,” he added.
Her uncle, Njeru Rwigi, who led other relatives to the scene, said the family had travelled from Kamagambo village, about three kilometres away.
Who had Jackline Ruguru’s mobile phone?
They arrived to find villagers gathered at the spot and immediately notified officers from Kiamutugu Police Station, who responded promptly.
“We had earlier found her phone on Monday, which was handed to us by someone whose connection to it is still unclear. Detectives are investigating the matter,” Rwigi explained.
