This comes after he released a series of WhatsApp screenshots showing his conversations with the late Bayo.

Most of the chats, leaked amid their ongoing custody battles, involved discussions about the children’s school fees and other needs.

A section of online users called out the preacher for leaking the chats days before the musician’s burial and even after she had been laid to rest.

Others, however, hailed him for being a responsible father, while some criticised him for not responding to Bayo’s messages, as seen in the screenshots.

Why did Kanyari ignore Betty Bayo’s texts?

Despite leaking the screenshots related to the children’s school fees, Kanyari still went on to explain himself during a church service.

He acknowledged that he had not responded to the text messages but explained that he acted by sending money to his children’s mother via M-Pesa.

According to the preacher, Bayo passed away knowing that he had a good heart and that the negative things being spread online were unnecessary.

“Betty Bayo died knowing I had a good heart. Not once did she ask me for money and I say I did not have it. I always told her I would send it. I never responded to her text messages because I respond with M-Pesa. I saw some people making an issue out of that. If she said the kids need money, all I need to do is send it,” he said.

He explained that he never engaged in arguments or long discussions over the money his children needed; instead, he would find the money and send it.

To him, sending the money was response enough, and he called on other men to respond in kind whenever their wives asked for money.

Netizens react to Kanyari’s response over ignoring Bayo

Some netizens agreed with Kanyari’s approach, while others felt that a simple acknowledgement, like a text response, was still important.

Eva D’Souza:

“To be honest, even just a small acknowledgement is important, a simple ‘okay’.”

Betty Khan:

“Let’s see the M-Pesa receipts first, especially the one for 94k.”

Mocescshiro:

“Date or marry a rich guy, you’ll understand. Both my dad and my husband reply with an M-Pesa message followed by a call. They’ve got no time to chat.”

Lafifa Collins:

“Where is that person who would text me and wait for me to reply with M-Pesa?”
