The Eldoret-based institution will hold its 48th graduation ceremony on Thursday, December 18, where thousands of students are expected to receive their degrees, according to the almanac seen by TUKO.co.ke.
Revised Moi University semester dates for 2024/2025/2026
End-of-semester exams are scheduled for January 12 to 23 for first-year students who reported on August 21, as well as for continuing students across all campuses.
Following the examinations, the second semester will begin on January 26, marked by the opening of course registration for all students.
Continuous Assessment Tests (CAT) 1 for the second semester will run from February 16 to 27, 2026, followed by CAT 2 from March 16 to 27, 2026. The semester will conclude with end-of-semester examinations for all student groups.
After exams, three cohorts, including third-year students and fourth-year students affected by the previous lecturers’ strike, will proceed for teaching practicum, field attachment, practice or judicial attachment.
Moi University increases teaching hours
According to the almanac signed by Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academics, Research, and Student Affairs Khaemba Ongeti, the institution’s senate approved that teaching hours run from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.
“To ensure that all required course hours are recovered, the senate in its meeting held on November 19 approved that teaching hours for the academic years 2024/2025/2026 will run from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, and that weekly lecture hours be increased from three to four,” Ongeti said.

The revised schedule has put renewed pressure on students. Hermon Ogweno, a fourth-year student in the School of Arts and Social Sciences, told TUKO.co.ke that the fixed dates are already creating a heavy workload.
“In one of the courses, we are required to write a play and stage it before the December break. At the same time, I am working on my research project. After the April exams, we head for attachment, then return for a field course in Mombasa. Thereafter, we ensure all marks are in the portal, with our graduation likely in December 2026,” he said.
A lecturer who declined to be named told TUKO.co.ke that while the schedule is tight, it is necessary to recover the time lost to the strike and will ultimately benefit students in the long run.
In a related development, Maseno University also revised its semester dates, scheduling a Christmas break from December 24, with students required to report back on January 4, 2026.
End-of-semester exams will run from January 5 to 23, followed by the second semester from February 2 to April 10.
