Chuck Potthast, the father of 90 Day Fiance reality star Elizabeth “Libby” Castravet, died recently.
The latter was among the beloved cast of the TLC relationship show. He joined the show in 2017 and won the hearts of many fans across the globe. He had 99k followers on Instagram.
He featured several times on the main show as well as on 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After? and 90 Day Fiance: Pillow Talk in storylines involving one of his daughters, Libby, and her husband, Andrei Castravet.
What killed 90 Day Fiance star Chuck Potthast?
The loving father was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, in 2022 after previously being cancer‑free for several years.
Through his Instagram account, he narrated how he underwent treatment; however, in September, he underwent an eight-hour surgery and shared an update on his health on Instagram.
Chuck revealed that he had developed hernias from previous cancer-related surgeries, and revealed that his stomach wall had “completely collapsed”.
“I wanted to thank everyone for their prayers and support,” he said in a video from his hospital bed shared on September 14.
On Sunday, November 23, Libby shared a heartbreaking post announcing her father’s death after a long battle with brain cancer. He died aged 64.
“Two weeks ago, tragedy struck our family, and it has left us completely shattered. My sweet, loving, and caring dad went to heaven. We’re trying to figure out how to navigate our lives and move forward without him. Please respect our privacy during this extremely difficult time,” she shared accompanied by a photo of her father and her family.
What is glioblastoma?
According to Mayo Clinic, glioblastoma is a type of cancer that starts as a growth of cells in the brain or spinal cord. It grows quickly and can invade and destroy healthy tissue. Glioblastoma forms from cells called astrocytes that support nerve cells.
Mayo reports that glioblastoma can happen at any age. But it tends to happen more often in older adults.
Its symptoms include headaches, nausea and vomiting, blurred or double vision, trouble speaking, altered sense of touch, and seizures.
