Kakamega: A family in Chevaywa Ward, Lugari sub-county, is mourning the loss of eight relatives who died in a tragic accident on Wednesday, November 26, at Kijabe, Kiambu county.

The victims were among 13 passengers travelling to their home in the Kulumbi area for the burial of their kin, Mama Perpetua Tsivona.

Governor Fernandes Barasa confirmed the incident, adding that the five survivors were rushed to Kijabe Hospital for urgent medication.

“I have received, with great shock, news of the death of 8 members of the same family in a tragic road accident at Kijabe, Kiambu county. Preliminary reports indicate that the eight were part of a team of 13 passengers who were travelling in the same vehicle to their home in Kulumbi area for the burial of their kin, Mama Perpetua Tsivona,”he said.

The county boss offered condolences to the family and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

“My government mourns our brothers and sisters who perished in this accident. We also pray for a speedy recovery for those who were injured. We share in the great loss that the family is enduring at this time of deep sorrow and pain. May God rest the souls of the departed in eternal peace,” he added.

Kenyan among 3 killed in South Sudan plane crash

In other news, a Kenyan national was among three crew members who lost their lives when a humanitarian plane crashed on Tuesday, November 25, in Leer county, South Sudan.

The crash occurred after the plane, hired to transport food supplies from Juba to assist flood‑affected communities, experienced a mechanical problem.

Authorities reported that the bodies of two victims, one from Ukraine and another from South Sudan, were recovered, while the Kenyan crew member remained missing as of Tuesday, November 25.

The South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority stated that investigations into the cause of the crash had been launched.
