Why do Kakamega teachers want guns?

After Shange’s death, teachers in Lugari requested the government to enhance their security and even sought permission to carry guns.

According to the teachers, Shange’s death left them in fear for their own lives, with many claiming they had been living under constant threats.

The teachers also issued an ultimatum through the Kenya Secondary School Heads’ Association. As the service took place, teachers in Lugari reiterated that they were living in fear.

“The work of leaders is to facilitate development in our institutions, not to interfere with school operations or intimidate teachers. I will prioritise Lugari constituency to address this problem and ensure our teachers have the freedom and security they need to run our schools effectively,” said Governor Fernandes Barasa.

“I emphasised to security agencies to ensure justice is served,” he added.
