Arizona — A Kenyan woman has been arrested in the US after allegedly using another person’s professional credentials to treat vulnerable patients in hospice care settings.

Christine Nyambura Muturi, who also goes by the name Christine Lewis, posed as a registered nurse to pull an elaborate scheme built on forged documents, false claims, and years of deception.
When was Nyambura first employed?
According to court filings, Nyambura was hired in August by Northern Arizona Hospice (NAZ) in Cottonwood after presenting herself as a fully qualified registered nurse.
The Kenyan Diaspora Media reports that in her application, she claimed to have worked as a triage nurse at a Las Vegas hospital between 2019 and 2022.
She described herself as a “compassionate and highly skilled” professional with extensive hospice experience and even submitted what appeared to be a valid multi-state nursing licence issued in Colorado.
At first, she was shadowed by other nurses and even carried out one solo patient visit on August 15.
How Nyambura was discovered
But her story began to crumble when NAZ administrators discovered a troubling detail: the licence she submitted had been issued four years before she was born.
While the name on the licence matched hers, the true owner was a woman nearly three decades older who confirmed she had never met Nyambura and had not given anyone permission to use her credentials.
Faced with the inconsistencies, NAZ confronted Nyambura, and she resigned on the spot, a move that raised eyebrows among hospital authorities.
The situation took an alarming turn when the Cottonwood facility learnt she had promptly secured another nursing position at Golden Rose Hospice in Mesa.

Nyambura arrested over fraud
Police were alerted, sparking a deeper investigation that revealed Nyambura had never held a nursing licence in any US state.
Her arrest came on November 13, after an undercover agent from the Arizona Attorney General’s Office posed as an individual preparing to open a new hospice facility.
During their meeting, Nyambura again claimed she held an active nursing licence, a claim authorities say contributed to the final decision to arrest her.
She was taken into custody at her home in Mesa, near Crismon Road and Ray Road, and subsequently denied bail owing to her previous criminal record.
Nyambura’s record includes arrests for domestic battery in Las Vegas and an earlier fugitive-from-justice case in Los Angeles.
Investigators are now working to determine the full reach of her activities, including whether any patients were placed at risk during her time in hospice environments.
Nyambura spent KSh 8m on birthday
In an earlier story, Nyambura went huge for her baby girl’s first birthday party because she wanted to make the experience memorable.
She invited Tanzania’s sensation artiste, Harmonize, to perform at the event meant to celebrate her daughter’s life, whom she said was born extremely premature.
According to the mother of five, she spent 78,000 US dollars (over KSh 8 million), to play flights for the Matatizo hitmaker, his team, and security during their stay in the US.
