The country has yet to heal from Raila’s passing, and his friends are still suffering from the pain of losing an enigma.
What did Raila’s best friend say?
Luo elder and one of Raila’s best friends, Mzee Olang’o Nyabola, during an interview with Citizen TV, broke into a Luo dirge to mourn the late politician.
Nyabola repeatedly called out the late politician’s name for emphasis. He noted that Raila’s death left the world empty.
“Amollo, Amollo, you’ve left us, and the world is empty. The grave has taken you, son of Bonyo. Amollo, you are gone. Raila, you are gone. Kenya is left lonely son of Bonyo.”
He also spoke directly to the departed political icon, acknowledging the uncertainties of the afterlife.
Olang’o also expressed fear of his own death, questioning who will bury him now that Raila is not around.

This showed the role Raila played in the community and how he honoured others as a great leader.
“Raila, when I join you, what will you give me? Yet there is no road in the land of the dead, and there is no respect. Amollo, tell me God has given Oduor a chance to wait for Amollo, son of Bonyo, in heaven. Raila, tell me if Oduor has seen you, son of Bonyo. Raila, who will bury me when death calls me?” he said.
He also recalled Raila as a political martyr who fought for democracy. The politician was tortured, and Nyabola signalled the late politician’s teary eyes that were affected until his death.
“Kenyans, this is the Amollo who was tortured like a thief, yet he didn’t steal. Is this not the Amollo who slept with water up to his neck when other men slept with their wives like locusts in the grass? Is this not the Amollo who slept in the darkness for nine years? Amollo suffered until Kenya became a multiparty. Is this not the Amollo whose eyes teared like a buffalo after being locked in water and darkness,” he added.
