The family of the late former prime minister Raila Odinga has announced the burial date for their sister, Beryl Achieng’, who died while undergoing treatment for cancer in Nairobi Hospital.

Achieng’ passed away on November 25, just weeks after the burial of the former statesman. Her body was taken to Lee Funeral Home for necessary procedures before her burial.
Achieng’ left behind three children: Ami Auma Ambala-Hallam, Chizi Ambala, and Taurai Ernest Raila Mungwari. She was a mother-in-law of Brian Hallam and Brenda Achieng’.

When will Beryl Achieng’ be buried?
Raila Odinga Junior, the son of the late former ODM leader, announced that Achieng’ will be laid to rest on Saturday, December 6, at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in Bondo, Siaya.
“Burial will be held at Kango Ka Jaramogi on Saturday, December 6, 2025,” Junior confirmed.
Junior assisted in choosing the burial site, which was selected due to her historical significance to the family.
She was remembered as a woman of strength, wisdom, and calmness.
A fundraiser will be held on Tuesday, December 2, at the United Kenya Club (UKC) from 5pm.
This will be followed by a memorial service, which will be held at the Consolata Shrine, Westlands, on Wednesday, December 3, at 9am.

Which positions did Beryl hold?
Before her demise, Achieng’ was an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and held senior positions both in Zimbabwe and in Kenya, including being the first African town clerk in independent Zimbabwe.
She was also a lecturer at the Kenya School of Law and had served as the chairperson of Athi Water, vice chairperson of Nairobi Water and Sewerage from 2020, and chairperson of the Kenya Railway Pension Scheme, among others.
Achieng’ was also a mathematician.

Meanwhile, President William Ruto penned a touching tribute to the late Achieng’ while recounting her contributions to the development of the country.
He described her as a great intellectual and a pioneering woman who opened doors and lit the path for many career women.
The president noted that she not only advanced urban development and public service but also inspired countless young women to pursue careers in fields once dominated by men.
Raila’s ‘granddaughter,’ Furaha, noted that she was tired of mourning the passing of her two loved ones.
While at Lee Funeral Home, Senator Oburu Oginga was also captured in tears as he viewed the body of his late sister.
