The Siyabonga hitmaker died while receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), after being diagnosed with blood cancer at an advanced stage shortly before her passing.
Did Betty Bayo’s family know about her illness?
Following her death, public discussions largely focused on the custody of her children and who would take care of them: her husband, Hiram Gitau (Tash) or their biological father, Pastor Victor Kanyari.

However, attention has now shifted to Betty’s family after her brother, Edward Kang’ethe Mbugua, revealed previously unknown details about her final days.
During a recent TikTok live session, Mbugua revealed that Betty’s family was unaware of the severity of her illness before her passing.
He recounted their close relationship and how Betty had always been open with him about minor health matters, such as mild headaches or colds.
According to Mbugua, there was no prior indication of the serious illness that eventually claimed her life.
Additionally, those close to her allegedly never informed them of what was happening.
“I did not know about her being sick with anything other than mild headaches and a runny nose, which are things she would tell me about. I do not know what exactly happened that she fell ill, and I was never informed. I am not aware of anything about her having been seriously ill. At home, nobody knew that Betty was sick or had an underlying condition,” he explained.

“If my sister spoke, maybe things would not have turned out as they did. We only found out in the final minutes,” he added, explaining that when the call finally came, they all rushed to be with her.
It is worth mentioning that, according to Betty’s close ally, gospel singer Shiru wa GP, she had been ill for about a week.
Shiru said that Betty was initially rushed to AAR Hospital when her condition worsened at home, before being referred to KNH for advanced treatment.
What is Betty Bayo’s family planning now?
Mbugua emphasised that his main priority now is ensuring that Betty’s children are well cared for.
He expressed his view that the children should remain with Pastor Kanyari, noting that despite their separation, he continued fulfilling his fatherly responsibilities.
The kids, Sky and Danivictor, have been with Tash since the burial.
