The club was reportedly packed with around 100 people on the dance floor for the weekend. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Saturday, December 6.
What caused Goa club fire?
Preliminary police investigations suggested that the blaze was triggered by a gas cylinder explosion, as eyewitnesses reported that the fire began during a dance performance.
According to the Guardian, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant confirmed that the victims were 14 kitchen staff members, along with four tourists.
Seven other victims have yet to be identified. Security and rescue officers rushed to the scene to contain the tragedy.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the incident, offered condolences to the bereaved families, and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
“The fire mishap in Arpora, Goa is deeply saddening. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover at the earliest. I spoke to Goa CM Dr. Pramod Sawant Ji about the situation. The state government is providing all possible assistance to those affected,” he said in a Facebook post.
What did eyewitnesses say about Goa fire?
As reported by The Hans India, Fatima Shaikh, an eyewitness, described the harrowing scene, noting that ‘several tourists mistakenly ran toward the ground-floor kitchen, where the fire had reportedly started, and became trapped alongside staff.’
She noted that a majority of them managed to escape.
A nearby restaurant’s security guard recalled a powerful explosion, later identified as a cylinder burst that fueled the inferno.
Another local resident reported hearing a loud blast while returning home, followed by ambulances crowding the site.
Authorities have arrested the club manager and ordered a magisterial inquiry amid allegations of serious fire safety lapses.
7 people die in tragic crash along Mombasa Road
Elsewhere, seven people were killed in a grisly road accident involving a matatu and a trailer in the Miasenyi area along the Voi–Samburu stretch.

According to eyewitnesses, the matatu belonging to the Kinatwa company and travelling to Mombasa was overtaking other vehicles before colliding with the truck.
The bodies of the deceased, including the driver, were transported to Moi Referral Hospital-Voi morgue. Motorists blamed KeNHA for their alleged 20-year reluctance in upgrading the road.
However, a section of Kenyans who reacted to the accident blamed the driver for reckless driving, with many claiming that most of the Kinatwa Sacco drivers often speed.
