Ruth Odinga’s youngest son, known as Papa, has delighted netizens after a video of his tribute at his aunt, Beryl Achieng’s, burial went viral.

Papa took to the podium to eulogise Beryl, but it was how he was speaking and his gestures that got many noticing the striking resemblance to the late Raila Odinga.

What did Ruth Odinga’s son say to excite netizens?

Raila died in India on October 15, and his sister Beryl passed on November 25. In his speech, Papa noted how Beryl was such a warm and welcoming person.

“Today I want to say, as a lastborn of a lastborn, I can comfortably say that I grew up with all of my family. There is no one from Elijah, Oburu, or Osewe. I see Auntie Tabu, I see Auntie Akinyi with Miriam and Jara. All of my family I have raised, they have either gone through me, or I have gone through them. Today, we have lost a pillar. In the household, she may not have been a public figure, but inside our home, we used to call her the queen mother.

He also shared his experiences travelling to Zimbabwe to visit his aunt and continued to encourage his family to be strong.

“My dad used to work for the UN. That was when I used to go to Zimbabwe. In Zimbabwe, Auntie B was not just welcoming. Right now, we are feeling as though God has left us, but that is not true. This family was built through suffering and sacrifice. But as you see us today, you may feel we are suffering, but we are not. This was planned by God.

How did Papa mourn his aunt?

He also recalled a conversation he had with his mother about what happened when Jaramogi Oginga passed.

Ruth then told her son that he should not be scared because, as much as people were leaving, there were others who would come after them.

“I also say this as an engineer. The other engineer was Baba. As an engineer, there is a conservation of energy, or what is it? It is neither created nor destroyed, transferred from one form to another. When I see Chizi, I see and feel the mind of Auntie B. When I see Tairai, I see the heart of Auntie B. When I see Auma, I see Auntie B. Nothing has been lost,” he added.
