Janet Wavinya, 24, met her fate on Monday, December 8, at a nearby hospital where she had been rushed by a neighbour.
When did Janet Wavinya start getting sick?
According to 33-year-old Fauz Felix Olunga, Wavinya had been unwell for a few weeks before she tragically breathed her last.
“She started having chest pains two months ago. It was the first time she had ever experienced them. She had never complained of chest pains before, so it was something new. The pain would come and go, unpredictable and inconsistent.
When she complained again in the second month, I took her to the hospital so we could understand what the issue was. We explained to the doctor the uniqueness of the illness, and the doctors decided to take a blood test to determine the cause,” he said.
Despite their efforts, doctors were unable to pinpoint the root cause of her illness or give the right diagnosis. Instead, they prescribed medication as they planned further assessment.
Janet Wavinya calls taxi after chest pains
On the day Wavinya passed away, Olunga said she appeared completely healthy and strong.
“In fact, she was the one who made breakfast. Her mother had visited, but when she saw her daughter was doing well, she didn’t stay long. I had an appointment in Kiambu county, so I also left early.
A few hours later, the chest pains returned, and this time they were extremely strong. She phoned our neighbour, who responded immediately. She quickly called a taxi so they could rush her to the hospital. We were supposed to go for an X-ray that same day, but because she seemed fine, we postponed it,” he said.
Inside the car, the pain intensified. Instead of heading to another hospital farther away, the taxi driver diverted to a nearby medical facility.
How did Wavinya’s mum react to daughter’s death?
Wavinya was sweating heavily and struggling to breathe, clearly in urgent need of medical attention.
“When they arrived, there was a queue, but she was taken straight to the doctor. Instead of putting her on oxygen, the doctor began looking for a vein to draw blood, test it, then diagnose her. While he was doing that, my wife died.
I was on my way to my appointment when I received a call from her cousin, who had joined them at the hospital. I was shattered, restless and weak. I never expected it. She was a strong woman,” he said.
He added that his mother-in-law fainted upon learning her daughter had passed.
How did Janet Wavinya’s friends eulogise her?
Olunga arrived at the hospital at 6 pm, six hours after his wife’s death, and viewed her body, which had already been taken to the morgue.
“We are seeking financial support to bury my wife. It was so sudden. Death does not knock. I have not eaten for the past two days. Everyone who knew her says I have lost one of the best women ever. She was an amazing woman with a beautiful personality,” he shared.
He also posted several throwback TikTok videos capturing the loving relationship they shared while Wavinya was alive.
