A heavy cloud of grief has surrounded a family in Nyamira county following the tragic loss of 10 relatives.

They were involved in a grisly road accident along the Sondu-Oyugis Road in Chabera, Rachuonyo East sub-county.

The 10 victims reportedly died on the spot, while six others were rushed to Rachuonyo South Hospital in Oyugis for medical attention.

Moreover, the survivors were later transferred to Nyamira County Teaching and Referral Hospital for further treatment.

The family members had been travelling home from Kakamega County, where they had attended a wedding ceremony.

The deadly crash, involving a private van ferrying the family and two lorries, occurred on Sunday, December 14, at around 8 pm.

What did Nyamira family say after 10 relatives died in accident?

Patrick Wanga, a family member, stated that police officers informed them that one truck had lost control and was swerving on the road before it collided with the van.

“The driver is also one of our family members. The truck that hit them was coming from Kisii, and the van was headed to Kisii. We even went to the scene of the accident, and all I can say is to urge road users to be extra cautious, especially during this festive season,” said Patrick.

Another family member shared that he received the news of the accident at around 2 am. Initially, he thought the incident had happened in Nyamira, only to discover it was still quite far from home.

“I went to the accident scene, visited the police station, and then went to the mortuary to identify the bodies,” he said.

The grieving man expressed his pain through tears, noting that the accident had claimed so many lives from the same family.

He added that they had recently buried another relative who died in an accident around the Sondu area.

“We want to urge road users to be cautious, and for authorities to enforce strict road safety measures,” he stated.

Were the Homa Bay accident victims choir members? A resident of Nyamira revealed that most of the people killed in the crash were choir members from their local church.

They had left home on Saturday, December 13, at 4 pm to attend the wedding in Kakamega.

“They arrived in Kakamega safely and spent the night. The following day, they celebrated the wedding and left at 3 pm to return home, only to meet their tragic fate,” he said.

How did the Nyamira KCSE candidate die?

Previously, TUKO.co.ke reported that a young lady, identified as Kemunto, who completed her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education in November, passed away.
