Details indicate that the former Lugari MP, who was allegedly in the company of a female friend, drove towards Naivasha under the cover of night.

At approximately 1.30 am, the vehicle stopped near a hotel along the Nairobi–Nakuru highway, where he dropped off the woman.
The two reportedly shared a brief conversation before parting ways, unaware it would be among Jirongo’s final interactions.
He then continued his journey alone, stopping shortly afterwards by the roadside to answer a call of nature before getting back behind the wheel.
Moment Jirongo crashed into bus
Moments later, at about 2.15am, Jirongo entered Eagol petrol station but did not refuel. He drove around the forecourt briefly before rejoining the highway.
In a fatal turn of events, his vehicle entered the road on the wrong lane and collided with an oncoming Climax bus, bringing the night’s journey to a devastating end.
The sequence of events has left family, friends and the wider public grappling with the fragility of life and how quickly routine moments spiralled into irreversible loss.

Security guard challenges Climax driver’s narrative
On December 13, the day of the accident, the driver of the Climax Bus he rammed into at Karai explained that Jirongo was on the wrong side as he was trying to avoid oncoming traffic.
However, the petrol station security guard’s testimony has challenged the bus driver’s version of events in the fatal highway crash.
The guard insisted the road was calm and empty moments before the accident, contradicting claims of traffic pressure.
Video captured Jirongo’s accident scene
Meanwhile, an eyewitness, under the username Trucker’s Obsession, shared a TikTok video of the accident scene shortly after it occurred, narrating what he had seen.
At the chaotic scene, both locals and authorities could be seen working to restore normalcy on that stretch of the road.
Jirongo’s wrecked Mercedes Benz was positioned in the middle of the road, facing sideways after the collision, while the Climax bus was in front of it.
The veteran politician’s body was moved to Naivasha Sub-county Mortuary before being transferred to Lee Funeral Home at the request of his family.
