It could be in a different city or country, but the aim is usually to earn enough to improve the financial situation of their families.
A young Kenyan woman, identified as Trixie, had this very mindset when she finished high school and struggled to find a job in Kenya.
Unable to find work locally, she sought opportunities abroad and travelled to Dubai, hoping to make her mother proud.

“Through sponsorship, I got a visa to Dubai and started working. I sent money back home to my mother for two years,” she shared.
Trixie told TUKO.co.ke that she planned to build her mother a beautiful home and move her out of the semi-permanent house she had grown up in.
Her main motivation was to transform their home, sacrificing time away from her loved ones to achieve this goal.
Why did Trixie return to Kenya?
“Everything went smoothly over the two years; we built the house, and when my contract ended, it was time for me to return home,” she continued. She recalled being warmly received by her family, and everything seemed well during the first few weeks.
However, Trixie had little money left because she had sent her earnings home to build the house, and the small amount she had travelled back with quickly ran out. That was when things took a turn in her life.
Trixie claimed her mother began nitpicking, finding faults in everything she did, and could barely afford even basic food items.
“I noticed something was wrong, but I ignored it. My mum had changed so much. Every time she returned from work, she would cause chaos, insult me, and even our neighbours were puzzled by the change in our family since we moved into the new house,” she shared.
As days passed, Trixie fell into depression. Life seemed unbearably unfair, especially when she thought of how hard she had worked for two years, sending money home, only to be mistreated because she no longer had money to send.
None of her friends offered help. She even resorted to seeking prayers from a man of God, having not eaten for days and feeling deeply stressed. But, to her surprise, she was asked to pay tithe before receiving any prayers.
The drama continued into the third month after her return to Kenya, until her mother told her to leave.
“She told me to leave her house and never return. I was shocked. I couldn’t believe what was coming out of her mouth. My heart broke as I replayed all the sacrifices I had made for her,” she noted.
According to Trixie, her mother had money, as she was working and could even change her hairstyle every two weeks, while Trixie suffered both emotionally and financially.

Where did Trixie go after her mum kicked her out?
Initially, she didn’t leave, as she had nowhere to go. But, by the fourth month, her mother told her to pack her belongings and go.
“She disowned me, said I wasn’t her daughter. I know I am because we look so much alike. By this time, I had already applied for a work visa, and a few days after she asked me to leave, I got an email saying it had been approved,” she said.
Trixie had secured a job in Qatar, and hope finally seemed to shine on her path. She patiently waited for the travel date, which was just a week away from the day she was kicked out.
On the day of her departure, she packed her belongings and left without informing her mother of her destination.
“As I was about to leave, I met her at the gate, and she asked where I was going. I just took a boda boda and headed to the bus stage,” she shared.

Now, living in Qatar, Trixie noted that her mother never bothered to look for her or find out where she was. She only received a WhatsApp text from her six months later, with no apology, just random stories.
“I just said ‘hi’ back, and that was it. I know where I stand in her life. I haven’t spoken to her in nearly two years now. I am considered homeless and an orphan, until further notice,” said Trixie.
Why was Nairobi lady kicked out by her boss?
In other news, TUKO.co.ke reported that Haven Kadesa sought help after her employer kicked her out of the house at night.
Kadesa, who worked as a househelp, stated that her boss became angry because she served herself food against his instructions.
She pleaded for a job, noting that her family back in the village relied on her entirely for financial support and returning home was not an option.
