Prominent lawyer Danstan Omari has revealed that the late former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo died just days before filing a court case.

Speaking during a recent interview at Jirongo’s home, Omari recalled first meeting the former lawmaker in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
He noted that Jirongo’s wife was his classmate at the University of Nairobi, where Jirongo would often visit.
“Cyrus was my client. I have defended him from the Chief Magistrate’s Court all the way to the Supreme Court. He was more than a client to me; he was a friend,” Omari said.
Was Jirongo filing a court case prior to his death?
The lawyer disclosed that shortly before the tragic road accident that claimed Jirongo’s life, the former MP had instructed him to file a case in court, plans that were cut short by his sudden death.
“Surprisingly, on the Thursday before he passed on, he came and gave me instructions at Fairview Hotel. We were supposed to file those papers in court on Monday. I went to Mombasa and worked on the papers, but shockingly, I was informed that he had passed away,” Omari stated.
Omari eulogised Jirongo as a man of strong conviction who knew how to smile even in the face of adversity.
He described him as someone who fought for what he believed in, stood by his political values, and never wavered.
He said the family was going through a very difficult time, particularly Jirongo’s widows and children.
Omari praised one of his wives, Anne, expressing confidence that she would continue holding the family together.
Kenyans warned against spreading rumours on Jirongo’s death
The lawyer warned Kenyans against spreading speculation surrounding Jirongo’s death, urging the public to allow relevant investigative agencies to carry out their work.
He also cautioned against using the former lawmaker’s death for political mileage, noting that such actions do not help the grieving family.
“My appeal to everybody is to let the family mourn quietly. Respect the family of the late, and allow the agencies mandated by the Constitution to do their work regarding the issues that have arisen,” Omari said.
He further warned bloggers against spreading misinformation to attract views, saying they do not understand the pain of losing a loved one.
Omari’s colleague, Cliff Ombeta, also eulogised Jirongo as a gentleman, a free spirit, and a helpful individual who could not be swayed or threatened.
“The family should be left to mourn. At this time, they need peace and shoulders to lean on. Politicians may want to take advantage of the situation and say anything, but they should have the human heart to recognise that people are grieving and allow them to grieve,” Ombeta said.

What really caused Cyrus Jirongo’s death?
TUKO.co.ke previously reported that a postmortem conducted by three pathologists confirmed that Jirongo died instantly from blunt force trauma after sustaining multiple severe injuries.
The family’s pathologist detailed extensive damage to his chest, abdomen, spine, and limbs, all consistent with a high-impact collision.
The family disputed early police reports as inconsistencies emerged in witness accounts. Investigations established that Jirongo was thrown several metres from his vehicle after his Mercedes-Benz collided with a bus heading to Busia.
