Kirinyaga, Kenya: A family in Matandara village, Nyangati Location, is engulfed in grief after a 48-year-old man, who had been missing for two days, was found dead outside the family shop.

According to Citizen Digital, Humphrey Mwai went missing on Monday, December 22, prompting a search by friends and neighbours. It was, therefore, heartbreaking when they found him dead.
Looking visibly shaken by the death of his middle-aged son, Mwai’s father, identified as Danson Mute, said that villagers who had gone to the shop found the body and raised the alarm, alerting his family and other villagers.

“It is heartbreaking. We had been searching for him, hoping he would come back home safely,” said the 85-year-old.
Nyangati Location Chief Immaculate Wanjiru Njoka, who visited the scene, was also stunned by the turn of events in the otherwise peaceful cmmunity said residents informed her about the death shortly after the discovery.
She added that preliminary observations suggested the victim may have suffered very serious injuries, which was deeply troubling to the community.
Why was the Nyangati community shocked?
“This is an unusual and shocking incident in our area. Security officers have already begun investigations,” Chief Njoka said.
Family members described Mwai as a hardworking farmer, while his wife runs the shop where his body was found. His brother-in-law, Samuel Kinyua, who also serves as the village in-charge, said the family had been preparing to celebrate the Christmas season together.
Neighbours Jackson Gicobi and Lawrence Kariuki called on authorities to move swiftly and bring those responsible to justice.
The body has been taken to Kibugi Funeral Home in Kutus for a post-mortem exam. Authorities urged all residents to cooperate with the police, who would be going around investigating the matter.
