Taifa Stars made history on Tuesday evening, holding Tunisia to a one-all draw to secure a place in the next stage for the first time.

How Tanzania qualified for AFCON 2025 knock-out stages

It was an interesting qualification, given that Tanzania did not win any of their three group stage matches. They lost to Nigeria in their opening game before drawing against Uganda.

Their two points were, however, enough to see them through as one of the best losers as they displaced both Angola and Comoros.

Tanzania will have another chance to get their first-ever AFCON win when they play Morocco in the Round of 16 on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the banter ensued on social media as Tanzanians revelled in the piece of history their men’s national football team had just created.

Tanzanians troll Kenya after making AFCON history

The progression to the knockout rounds was even sweeter as they pipped Uganda to third place in Group C while Kenya failed to qualify entirely.

Ronald Richard said,

“After qualifying to AFCON next stage, we can even conquer Kenya and make it one among many regions we have.”

Shaban Fundi Sport said,

“Ndugu zetu Wakenya wanasemaje kuhusu ushindi wa Taifa Stars mbona kimya kingi.”

Tanzania coach speaks after AFCON progression

On his part, Tanzania’s stand-in coach Miguel Gamondi expressed his happiness after leading his side to the knockout stage. The Argentine was appointed in November.

“I didn’t have enough time to prepare the team, but we worked together with the management and federation and feel very proud. Not just for myself but for the country. I wanted to change this mentality of underdogs. To qualify is a great learning experience for Tanzania who must be proud. I hope this will be a reminder to these players and the next generation of players on the potential of Tanzanian football,” he said via CAF Online.

How much Uganda will get at AFCON 2025

In a different story, Uganda are set to earn millions despite their early exit from AFCON 2025.
