“The mud house I grew up in has been there for a long time. It belonged to my elder brother before he built a wooden house on the same piece of land. The house has existed for over 15 years. Before that, we lived in a grass-thatched house, then moved to another mud house before settling here.

It is still there and consists of just one big room that served as both the living room and kitchen. The bathroom was separate and outside. We did not have much because I come from a very humble background, but I was determined to change my family’s status,” he said.

How did Kipruto afford KSh 1.2m house?

When Kipruto started hustling, his only goal was to elevate the living standards of his parents.

The little money he earned from his hustles went into savings to keep his dream of building his parents a house alive at all costs.

“I bought materials slowly with the little money I had since I did not have a lot of money or a permanent source of income. I had to be disciplined. I would buy materials, store them, then look for money to pay the builder and continue building at my own pace.

How did Kipruto’s parents’ react?

Kipruto, who is the fourth-born in a family of six, said he started construction in January 2025 and recently held a grand opening party in January 2026.

While building, he lied to his parents that he was constructing his own house, only to reveal during the grand opening that it belonged to them.

“They could not believe it. They were so happy that they shed tears of joy. Watching them was such a joy, and I was glad to make an impact. I spent around KSh 1.2 million on the house and furniture. It is a two-bedroom house fitted with an indoor bathroom and washroom, although I also built another toilet outside.

I funded everything alone since my siblings are not working and look up to me. I am grateful that I fulfilled my dream and gave my parents something nice,” he said.
