President William Ruto’s administration is set to implement the second phase of the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project.

The second phase targets approximately 50,000 beneficiaries in 27 counties.
How much will NYOTA beneficiaries receive?
This is according to Susan Auma Mang’eni, the Principal Secretary of the State Department of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development under the Ministry of Cooperatives and Micro Small and Medium Enterprises.
The PS said each beneficiary will receive KSh 22,000 as a deposit to their NYOTA Pochi la Biashara wallet, while an additional KSh 3,000 will be deposited into their Haba na Haba account under NSSF.
“We are now rolling out the second phase of disbursement, targeting 27 counties starting from Thursday, January 8, 2026, to Friday, January 16, 2026, for successful beneficiaries who completed the mandatory three-day business skills training. These countries are Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Trans-Nzoia, Turkana, West Pokot, Nakuru, Narok, Bomet, Kericho, Baringo, Laikipia, Isiolo, Samburu, Nyeri, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nyandarua, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Embu, Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Nairobi, Kiambu, and Kajiado,” Mang’eni stated.
Mang’eni noted that the third phase of the initiative will target 16 counties and would be rolled out in due course.

What are the plans for NYOTA beneficiaries?
Mang’eni announced that a two-month mentorship programme led by local entrepreneurs and business development specialists will be provided to all NYOTA Project business grant recipients, giving them a guided introduction to local markets and business ecosystems.

The recipients will complete a second session of Business Development Support training in preparation for the second tranche of the business grant distribution.
Beneficiaries will also receive assistance from business development specialists and are required to fully utilise the business grant in accordance with their business plans created during the classroom business skills training.
How many Kenyans benefited in the NYOTA first phase?
The government officially launched the NYOTA initiative on Friday, November 7, 2025, in Kakamega county.
Over 12,000 beneficiaries in the Western Kenya cluster (Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, and Busia counties) received business start-up capital.
The project intends to empower more than 100,000 vulnerable individuals in Kenya’s 1,450 wards, with at least 70 beneficiaries in each ward.
