Day Murimi took rooster to school
Murimi’s journey touched the hearts of many Kenyans when photos emerged of him arriving at Kangaru High School in Embu County carrying only a rooster, the only “fees” his family could offer.
Dressed in his primary school uniform and accompanied by his mother, he was turned away at the gate due to lack of fees.
It emerged that Murimi could afford to pay the school fees as he was being raised by a single mother who was struggling to make ends meet.
The emotional images of the 14-year-old, who had scored 313 marks in the 2021 KCPE exams, moved thousands and sparked an outpouring of support.
