Shabana FC and Gor Mahia played out to a goalless draw at the Gusii Stadium in Kisii County on Sunday afternoon.

The much-anticipated game, christened the Nyanza derby, took place in front of a sell-out crowd as the hosts looked for their first win over the record champions.
It was Gor Mahia’s second game since losing Austin Odhiambo, who joined Lebanese giants Nejmeh SC.
Gor Mahia’s goalkeeper, Bryne Omondi, suffered an injury in warm-up, forcing Gad Mathews to come in for his first start of the season.

Shabana players held Austin Odongo’s shirt before the start of the match after he lost his father this week.
K’Ogalo were first off the races but struggled to create clear-cut chances. In the 22nd minute, the best chance of the game fell to Humphrey Obina, whose free-kick hit the bar with Mathews well beaten.
Gor Mahia were forced into an early change after Ben Stanley Omondi went off injured, prompting head coach Charles Akonnor to hand new signing Jackson Dwang his first appearance. Dwang was signed from Posta Rangers to fill the void left by Odhiambo.
Shaban made a change of their own at the start of the second half, bringing in their dangerman Brian Michira in a bid to shake things up.
The chance came in the 63rd minute when Bronson Nsubuga’s shot from outside the box was saved by Matthews.
Akonnor made further changes, taking off Alph Onyango and Sharif Musa for Fidel Origa and Patrick Essombe as the red cord champions chased a late winner.
