Kenya is celebrating one of its own after Alfred Kipngetich from Litein, Kericho County, successfully passed out as a Royal Navy recruit during a parade at HMS Raleigh.

He relocated to the UK on September 7, 2025 before joining the Royal Navy on October 20 as a Logistics Supply Chain Specialist.
“It has been a long run of 10 weeks up and down with winter hitting in,” he said, noting the intensity of the training and the physical and mental resilience required to complete it.
Kipngetich’s journey continues to inspire young people who dream of building careers beyond borders, proving that with commitment, courage and hard work, the world’s opportunities are within reach.

Kenyan woman becomes lieutenant colonel in US
A Kenyan-born officer recently etched her name in history after being promoted to one of the most senior field ranks in the United States Army.
Major Silvia Jemutai, originally from Kopsiya Poror in Kenya’s Rift Valley, was officially elevated to the rank of lieutenant colonel during a warm and emotional ceremony held at Fort Lee, Virginia.
She spoke movingly of her mother’s influence, describing her as a pillar of strength whose sacrifices and steadfast encouragement shaped every step of her journey.
Jemutai noted that her mother opened doors and opportunities she never could have imagined, and that her sacrifices and belief in her made the moment possible.
