“I was at home one day when I saw my wife come in with the man. Just before he left, I saw him peck her,” he recalled.

Confused and unable to believe what he had witnessed, he confronted the mother of his children, who admitted that she was in a relationship with the new man.

Day Ngugi filed for divorce

That moment marked the start of his downward spiral, coming at a time when his mother was battling serious health issues.

Over the next few years, Ngugi watched helplessly as his former partner turned their two children against him while living in his house.

“One day, I came home from work and found that she had replaced my photos on the wall with those of her and her new lover,” he continued.

Unable to take the humiliation any longer, he filed for divorce and moved out, leaving behind everything they had built together.

“I was so depressed and confused that while going to attend her funeral, I missed my flight to Kenya despite having arrived at the airport two hours earlier. I didn’t even hear them call out my name,” he said.

With his mother gone, the divorce finalised, his children taken away, and his ex-wife officially moving on, Ngugi was left with nothing.

He began rebuilding his life from scratch in a long and painstaking process that he believes was part of God preparing him for a special mission.

“God wanted to take away all the distractions from my life so that I would listen to Him with clarity,” he shared.

Ngugi’s lost years restored

The painful experience taught him that earthly possessions can disappear at any moment.

Refocusing on his faith, he says he was guided to start the Lexus Foundation, through which he supports needy people both in Kenya and abroad.

Ngugi has been paying rent, school fees, and buying food for hundreds of beneficiaries, a charity initiative he says gives him joy and fulfillment.

He lost his earlier job and now runs a shop in the US, which helps fund the activities of the foundation. His love life was also restored when he met another Kenyan woman, and together they have built a thriving marriage.

Ngugi recently saved stranded teen

The above experience explains why Ngugi had no qualms saving a stranded teen during his recent visit to Kenya.

Ngugi and his friend were driving on the Naivasha–Nairobi road when they spotted a young woman stranded by the roadside, soaked from the rain and visibly distressed.

Concerned for her safety, he offered her a place to sleep before driving her back home to her parents, who were worried sick about her disappearance.

Ngugi believes the heart-warming rescue was not a coincidence because several vehicles had passed her without stopping, yet he felt compelled to stop.
