Hillary Kipchirchir Kimaiyo has not communicated with friends or family since last year, leaving them deeply concerned about his wellbeing and whereabouts.

Kipchirchir was expected to spend the festive season in Kenya, but just days before his scheduled arrival, he went silent without explanation.

When was first time Kipchirchir went to Mexico?

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, his younger brother, Willy Kimaiyo, recounted their last conversation before the sudden silence.

“I last spoke to him in early December. He was supposed to leave Mexico on December 15 so he could arrive early for the festive season. We have tried reaching him without success. His phone is off. We used to communicate through Facebook calls, while he would call our mum on WhatsApp. I sensed something was wrong when I called him to ask when he was arriving and there was no answer. We don’t even know whether he is in Kenya or Mexico,” he said painfully.

The 55-year-old Kipchirchir first travelled to Mexico in August 2007, according to his younger brother, Kimaiyo.

Kimaiyo noted that although his brother was an athlete, he did not compete professionally, adding that the family was not fully aware of what he did for a living.

Why did Kipchirchir went to Mexico?

“He mostly went for fitness-related activities. He would travel and later return to Kenya for long holidays, sometimes staying with us for six months to a year before going back abroad. He fell in love with a Mexican woman, and together they were blessed with two sons,” Kimaiyo said.

He added that he reached out to his sister-in-law, only to discover that she also had no information about Kipchirchir’s whereabouts. She revealed that they last spoke a few days before he went missing.

“She thought Kipchirchir was already with us in Kenya because, during their last conversation, he expressed his desire to visit us for the festive season,” Kimaiyo added.

He further disclosed that he later learned the couple had been separated for about six years, something Kipchirchir had never mentioned.

Kipchirchir’s rocky relationship with Mexican wife

“All he ever said when returning to Mexico was that he was going to be with his family. I later learned from a friend that Kipchirchir and his wife were not on good terms. The children remained with her, and they only communicated with their father occasionally,” he said.

The matter has since been reported to the police in Mexico, and relevant authorities have been involved in efforts to trace Kipchirchir.

Kimaiyo noted that his last conversation with his brother revolved around the planned trip to Kenya, after which his phone went off.
