A routine school admission turned into an extraordinary moment of reunion and healing after a Kenyan mother unexpectedly came face-to-face with the man who abandoned her and their newborn baby many years ago.

The woman, who became a mother while still in Form One, was surprised to find her former lover seated across the table as the school’s principal.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Achieng disclosed that had no idea her daughter’s estranged father held the top position at the institution.

Having raised the child with the help of her aunt after the father disappeared, she walked into the school with nothing more than hope and incomplete fees, only to meet the man she had not seen or heard from since their baby was a month old.
“I can’t remember the last time I saw him, heard about him or even thought he still existed,” she recalled. “And suddenly, there he was, seated right across the table.”
Her daughter, who had grown up unaware of her father’s identity, sat silently, unsure why the adults were frozen in shock.
Baby daddy embraced daughter
What followed, the mother says, was not a dramatic confrontation but a strange moment of disbelief and quiet emotion.
“He is lucky I am a calm spirit,” she said with a laugh. “Otherwise I would have brought the entire school to a standstill.”
But the awkward tension quickly melted into understanding. The principal embraced his daughter, apologised for the years he had missed, and immediately settled the full school fees.
He also promised to provide everything the girl still needed, from shopping to school requirements. For the young girl, the sudden discovery brought a mixture of excitement and wonder.
“She whispered to me that she feels like a king’s daughter,” her mother said. “I asked her, ‘You mean princess?’ and we both laughed.”
How reunion will benefit Achieng’s daughter
The principal then walked them out of his office, and the daughter even took a photo of her reunited parents, a moment the mother described as “healing”.
Now, the child is settled in the very school run by her father, and her mother says her worries have dissolved almost overnight.
“No more stress about fees, shopping or pocket money,” she said. “Nobody will bully her. She will be respected as the principal’s daughter. She will enjoy little privileges here and there.”
The mother, once unsure how she would manage, says she is now filled with gratitude, not for the position or perks, but for the reconciliation she never imagined possible.
“Surely, if God is for us, who can be against us?” she said, smiling.

Father runs away during Grade 10 admission
Elsewhere, a father from Mumias reportedly vanished, leaving his son stranded, upon learning of the school fees required for admission.
The man and his son had trekked all the way to St Ignatius Mukumu Boys High School in Kakamega County.
Things took an unexpected turn when school officials explained the amount needed for admission, as the mukombero seller quietly slipped away.
