The suspects, David Opiyo, alias the G.O.A.T., and Albert Kerry Nyadianga, have allegedly been involved in publishing and making false 2025 slips that have been widely circulated on social platforms.
How did Opiyo and Nyandiaga operate their scheme?
Opiyo, the mastermind of the scheme and a primary school teacher, was nabbed in Ongata Rongai, while Nyandiaga was cornered in Kisumu.
DCI disclosed that the duo, currently in police custody, claimed that they could upgrade the grades.
“Two slick conmen are cooling their heels in police custody. Like fishermen casting bait in murky waters, the duo had been luring desperate candidates and parents with promises of ‘upgraded’ grades, at a price. They boldly claimed they could tweak the KCSE results slip for a fee,” DCI claimed.
According to the investigators, Opiyo has a significant online following of 45,200 followers in a group branded ‘KCSE 2025 Grade Upgrading.’
The detectives claimed that Opiyo is also active in several other online social media platforms that engage in examination manipulation schemes.
The groups include KNEC/KASNEB/ICM/CDA, KNEC Legit Papers and Upgrading, KNEC Grade Editing, and Group Booster Support, among others.
They reportedly unearthed images of fake KCSE result slips and other examination material from their mobile phones.

How did suspects alter KCSE result slips?
In the KCSE 2025 Candidates WhatsApp group, one suspect informed the learners that he was ‘willing to help as many students as I can with the grade upgrading since the exams and the marking process was not fair.’
“The process is just the same, but now I am editing and upgrading your results as you confirm your changed grade in the KNEC portal,” they explained in another post.
DCI and the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) have warned the public to remain vigilant against fraudsters manipulating exams.
They noted that KCSE results are secure and cannot be tampered with or altered by any intermediaries.
While the suspects await their arraignment, the detectives continue to track down other individuals involved in academic fraud networks.
How did 2025 KCSE students perform?
Meanwhile, according to Education CS Julius Ogamba, 270,715 candidates scored C+ and above, the minimum grade required for university entry.
Over 634,000 students attained D+ and above, while more than 357,000 attained grades D, D-, and E, which are considered a fail.
Due to exam malpractices observed during the invigilation and marking process, the authorities cancelled results for 1,180 candidates.
