A young lady from Nairobi county did not wait for a promotion or a better job offer to make a crucial career decision.
Dorothy Kihara took a step of faith, or what others would call a massive risk, when she quit her job to pursue a new career path.
She took to social media to roll back the curtains on memories of her decision as she shared an update on her journey.
“Last year, a day like today, I sent an email that changed everything. I resigned from my on-site job. I didn’t have another job waiting. I just knew I couldn’t stay,” she shared.

Kihara also shared a screenshot of her resignation email to her employers, notifying them early of her decision to leave the company and try a new path.
She wrote a respectful email appreciating the company for the opportunity and for equipping her with the necessary skills.
“This decision was not made lightly, and I appreciate the opportunities I have been given during my time at the company. I am grateful for the support, encouragement, and professional development I have received. The skills and knowledge I have gained here will always be a significant part of my career journey.
I am committed to ensuring a smooth transition, and I will do everything I can to hand over my responsibilities effectively. Please let me know how I can assist during this transition period,” she added.
When did Kihara start learning online skills?
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Kihara shared that she started learning online skills in 2024, hoping to land a remote job, but it did not happen immediately.
At the time, she was working as a project manager and social media manager at her on-site job before quitting years later.
“I dedicated my evenings and early mornings to learning. By the time I resigned, I had the skills and was still learning, but I didn’t have a job. I resigned without a plan B, adjusted my life, and started looking for remote jobs.
My first remote role was from Upwork. It was a project to build an automation using Zapier. From there, I started getting jobs on Upwork, and I began building a personal brand on LinkedIn,” she shared.
Who are Kihara’s clients?
Her hard work paid off, with her success rate attracting a variety of clients interested in what she was doing and requesting training.
She trained them in artificial intelligence (AI) and customer relationship management (CRM) automation, which paid off significantly.
“I have worked with clients from Dubai, the USA, the UK, and the Netherlands, among others. I have also trained individuals from Kenya, the USA, Nigeria, and Germany. Currently, I am an AI and CRM Automation Engineer, building systems using no-code tools.
I am also the founder of Star AI Automation, an AI automation agency and academy. I also do AI video generation and build AI agents,” she proudly said.

Homeless man misses out on job
In another story, a young man broke down in a moving TikTok video after he went for a job interview, but unfortunately failed to land the job.
To add salt to the injury, he was already homeless and had hoped the employment opportunity would change his life.
He could not hold back his tears as social media users consoled him with touching messages, encouraging him not to give up.
