Wangui Ndirangu and her husband, Christopher Winkelpleck, are still struggling to come to terms with the devastating death of their three children.

The family, based in Hoover, United States, had travelled to Kenya for a Christmas holiday when tragedy struck.
The three children were involved in a fatal road accident along the Nairobi–Nakuru highway on January 4, 2026.
Sadly, Kairo Winkelpleck and Emmanuel Deleon died on the spot, while their elder sister, Njeri Deleon, sustained serious injuries.
She was rushed to hospital but later succumbed to her injuries, leaving their parents completely childless.
Family members and friends gathered at the International Christian Centre (ICC) on Mombasa Road on Friday, January 23, 2026, for a requiem mass held in honour of the three siblings.
A sombre mood filled the church as three small caskets were placed before the congregation, a heartbreaking sight that left many in tears.

Wangui Ndirangu’s tribute to her children
The grieving mother, in her tribute, shared heartbreaking words that deeply moved those present at the requiem service.
“No words can truly describe this moment. This is only to express where our hearts are. If I had known I would lose all of you in one day, I would have turned back the hands of time and done a million things differently. I would have laughed with you more, listened more and spent even more time with you. I would have been more careful, more attentive, pushed you more and said ‘I love you’ more often,” she said.
She went on to reflect on the pain of letting go and thanked God for allowing her to love and share joy with her children during the time they spent on earth.
“I am grateful that God gave me only joy, laughter and the security of loving you completely, because when the time came, there was no room to negotiate. Otherwise, I would have screamed and written this message through endless tears, longing for another chance to see you again. Now, I must learn how to breathe all over again.
“If only I could turn back the hands of time. But now I must look forward to a different time, held in the Father’s hands, where I will continue loving you still,” added Wangui.
How much did well-wishers contribute to the Deleon family?
Following the tragic death of the three siblings, their parents launched a fundraiser seeking KSh 9 million (about $70,000) to cover hospital bills and funeral arrangements.
They set up a GoFundMe page, explaining that the cost of handling an international tragedy was overwhelming.
After a few days, the family had received KSh 8.6 million from well-wishers through the GoFundMe page.
