A young woman has shared a chilling experience she had while travelling from Nairobi to her village in Kitui.

Bubbly Maureen arrived at the bus stop that fateful day at 6am, hoping for a smooth three-hour ride to her village.
She boarded a matatu and sat next to a woman who was carrying a young boy on her lap.
“The child was fully dressed and even had shoes. I made small talk with his mother, asking whether he was deeply asleep, and she agreed,” she said.

During the trip, the woman seemed stressed, but at first, Maureen didn’t pay much attention, assuming she was probably just tired from holding the child.
As the journey progressed, Maureen noticed the child had not moved or changed his sleeping position since they had boarded the matatu.
How did woman with dead baby behave in the matatu?
Another passenger noticed the woman was unsettled and asked Maureen to check on her, which she did, but received a cold response.
“I asked if she needed help carrying the boy or if she had a problem and offered to help, but she refused, saying she only had a slight headache and was fine,” she explained.
A few minutes later, the woman broke down in tears, attracting the attention of all the other passengers. They alerted the driver to stop at a chemist to get her some painkillers in an attempt to help her feel better.
“She didn’t want me to help her carry the baby, but she still took the painkillers, and we proceeded with the journey to Kitui,” Maureen added.
Upon reaching Kitui Junction, the driver made a stop at the roadblock, where police asked all passengers to alight for inspection.
The mother didn’t get off the matatu at first until the officers forced her to do so. She then left her son lying on the seat and stepped out.
How did passengers learn they had dead child onboard?
When it was time to return to the vehicle, the woman stayed behind, and another passenger noticed that the child might be dead.
Some screamed, raising tension at the roadblock where other vehicles and passengers were also present.
“The police arrived after hearing the screams and asked the woman to explain what was wrong with her son. A male passenger carried the boy out of the matatu, and that’s when we realised he was dead,” she shared.
Maureen said the woman later explained that her son had died the previous day after having an epileptic seizure at home.
“She said she performed her usual first aid and put him to bed to sleep, only to wake up the following day to find him not breathing. She revealed that the cost of transporting the body would be too expensive for her, as well as taking the child to the mortuary,” explained Maureen.
As a result, the woman decided to carry the body home as though he were still alive, to reduce the expenses, after sharing the sad news with her grandmother.

The clip showed young boys serving as pallbearers, carrying the body of their classmate to his final resting place.
Some netizens said the experience helped the children understand death, while others felt it was traumatic for the young boys involved.
