The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has announced the tragic demise of three recruits at the Defence Forces Recruits Training School (DFRTS) in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

In an official statement Friday evening, January 30, KDF said the trio developed medical complications mid-training.
They had joined their peers when they met their tragic end on Thursday, January 29.
“The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is deeply saddened to announce the tragic loss of three recruits during a scheduled training activity. The recruits developed medical complications while participating in a routine endurance exercise,” the KDF said.
According to KDF, the trio was subjected to medical assistance undertaken by on-site medical team before their referral to to the Eldoret Regional Hospital for specialised treatment.
Unfortunatelty, all the efforts to save them were in vain, as they were confirmed dead at the regional hospital.
“Regrettably, they were pronounced dead despite concerted efforts by the attending medical teams,” KDF said.
Their families were immediately contacted to be informed about the sad development.
The armed forces also deployed its professionals to help the family cope with the sad reality.
“The next of kin have been formally notified, and the Kenya Defence Forces is providing the necessary support and assistance to the affected families. KDF conveys its deepest condolences to the families, loved ones, fellow recruits and colleagues of the deceased during this difficult time,” the KDF said.
Meanwhile, an investigation was launched into tragedy.
The findings, KDF said, would be used by the armed forces to prepare for such emergencies.
“A thorough investigation has been initiated in accordance with established military procedures to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. The findings will inform any necessary measures to enhance the safety and welfare of personnel undergoing training.,” KDF said.
“The Kenya Defence Forces remains committed to upholding the highest standards of safety, professionalism and care for all its personnel,” it added.
