Who were Tusker Project Fame stars?

1. Ruth Matete

Gospel musician Ruth Matete garnered fame after she won the fifth season of Tusker Project Fame in 2012.

The musician who relocated to Canada recently spoke about the amount she had won 14 years ago. She assured her fans that she no longer had a cent of the prize money.

After she won the award, Ruth transitioned to gospel music, a move not seen coming, and she won a Groove Awards in 2015.

She was an upcoming gospel musician, and at the time, won the New Artiste of the Year.

Ruth later found love in a Nigerian preacher, John Apewajoye, but their love hit a tragic end when he passed away five months after their wedding.

The two tied the knot in 2020, and she was pregnant with their first child when her hubby passed away.

Her husband passed away while sustaining severe burns he had sustained following a domestic gas cylinder explosion.

After her husband’s death, she faced public scrutiny, with some accusing her of Apewajoye’s death. In 2024, she was acquitted of her husband’s death.

Ruth later moved to Canada with her daughter, and she has been sharing tidbits of her life on social media. She has carried on with her ministry life.

2. Ng’ang’alito

Musician Benard Ng’ang’a, popularly known as Ng’ang’alito, shot to fame after being featured on TPF.

Although he did not win the prize money, the musician was among the artistes that captured hearts thanks to his soulful music and charming personality.

The star had clarified that he wasn’t bitter despite not winning the KSh 5 million reward.

Hailing from Nakuru city, the musician discovered his singing talent back in high school.

Over the years, the musician has veered off from what once made him a Kenyan sweetheart. Most celebrities often prefer to leave the limelight.

Before he joined the show, reports claimed that he worked as a construction worker, and later he became a mechanic.

Ng’ang’alito is among the lucky few musicians who receive support from their parents. His father, in a previous interview, revealed that while their family had received encouragement, they had also received criticism in equal measure.

His mum, while fighting back tears, noted that she was heartbroken and annoyed by people who were speaking ill of her son.

The naysayers did not defer to Ng’ang’alito. He later released an album dubbed Zawadi, among other projects, before he disappeared from the entertainment scene.

During an interview with Nairobi News, he revealed that he was a producer of a show at a local TV station.

He later ventured into business, and he had previously revealed that he owned several pubs.

The former TPF star revealed later that he had a daughter and a wife whom he loved and cherished to bits.

3. Wendy Kimani

Wendy Kimani, a prominent music writer and singer, rose to fame after becoming a second runner-up for the musical series.

Over the years, Kimani has made several collaborations with prominent musicians such as Bien Baraza and Gilad Millo.

She also tried her hand at acting and was featured in Rush. The musician then fell in love and moved to the Netherlands.

Kimani and her husband have a son, and two weeks ago she was spotted at Nakili Sessions, where she announced her comeback.

She, however, revealed that she spends most of her time in the Netherlands.

“I am back singing for you guys. In the Netherlands, yes… life is good because I have now settled in. The culture shock does not shock me anymore. Kenya does not stop being home. I miss the Kenyan vibe. The Netherlands has its own vibe. It’s different. Home is warm and vibey and has a bit of chaos,” she said.

4. Alvan Love

Alvan Gatitu, also known as Alvan Love, gained prominence over the years due to his participation in TPF.

He gained fame on the show when he chose to save a fellow contestant who later won that season.

The musician joined the media after he was eliminated from the show. He became a presenter for Trace Radio.

He has also garnered popularity for his comedic skits on TikTok and Instagram.

Previously, Nairobi News reported that Kenyans raised KSh 2 million for Alvan Love after he opened up about his rent arrears in 2020.

In 2025, he went viral after a woman exposed him for failing to pay a debt he owed, revealing that she had let him stay at her Airbnb.

5. Patricia Kihoro

Media personality Patricia Kihoro rose to fame as the third finalist in the musical show.

She was a Kenyan sweetheart, and being in the show was the beginning of her journey to success.

Kihoro has featured in several films, including Rafiki (2018), Disconnect (2018), and Disconnect: The Wedding Planner.

The musician also featured on Sauti Sol’s Coming Home, and most Gen Zs admit to seeing her on the video for the first time.

Over the years, Kihoro has cemented her name in corporate media.
