Kisii country: Screams have rent the air as the body of musician Ezra Obiero finally arrived home ahead of his burial on Sunday, February 1.

Ezra, a young father who lost his wife during childbirth in 2023, sadly died after battling blood cancer for several months. According to those close to the departed musician, the father of two never fully recovered from the grief he carried, and the situation was compounded by the sickness.
When the community learnt of his death on January 18, 2026, they were heartbroken for the two children the couple have left behind.
Ezra was diagnosed with blood cancer in late November 2025, and according to his brother Edgar, Ezra used to complain of severe chest pains caused by recurring fluid buildup in his chest, and when he went to the hospital, tests confirmed that cancer had gravely affected his lungs.

How was Ezra’s death taken at home?
When Ezra’s body arrived home, there was palpable pain from members of the community, and when they were allowed to view the body, they started wailing in pain. Some people could be seen shaking their heads in disbelief after viewing the body.
The body was taken to church, where the family was encouraged to look to God at this difficult time and prayed for after the preaching of the pastor.
“I know it feels bad and that you feel all alone after the death of your father but look to God,” said the pastor.
