The viral family of six had spent years walking across towns with their children and sleeping by the roadside.
Encounter that changed trekking family’s story
Daktari Kelvin Kipchirchir Ufa told TUKO.co.ke that their breakthrough followed an encounter with Apostle Matthew Ondicho along the Sotik–Kericho highway at Kapsuser.
Moved by their situation as they trekked on foot, the clergyman stopped, prayed with them and declared that it would be their final journey on the road.
Later that same day, the family’s path crossed with social media influencer Sec Regen, who was struck by the sight of parents walking with their children.
After watching how the parents had one baby strapped on the back while the others trudged alongside them, he shared their story online, prompting a wave of public concern and attention.
Who housed trekking family?
Among those who saw the post was Belgut Member of Parliament, Nelson Koech. He publicly commented, asking that the family be traced so he could understand their situation and offer support.
Within days, the MP met the family and pledged to settle them, return the children to school, acquire land and eventually build them a permanent home.
True to his word, just two days later Koech secured a rental house for the family and paid five months’ rent, marking the end of years spent sleeping in the cold and uncertainty.
Plans to identify land for permanent settlement are now underway.

Fulfillment of God’s promise
In a video later shared by Apostle Matthew Ondicho, the family described the outcome as a fulfilment of the prayer spoken on the roadside.
They expressed deep gratitude, praising the apostle as a “destiny opener” and thanking God for using different people, through prayer, social media and leadership, to transform their lives.
For the family, the house is more than shelter. It is a sign, they believe, that faith, compassion and action converged at the right moment to bring their long journey to an end and open the door to a new beginning.
Details about the viral trekking family
The family, consisting of two parents and four young children, came into the limelight after images of them went viral on social media in 2025.
Users who encountered them on their mysterious journey took photos and shared them, showing the various counties they had reached.
They have never revealed where they are headed or why they chose to walk for years without accepting help or stopping to settle.
