The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has shaken up its senior management in a bid to streamline operations and strengthen its fight against corruption.

The changes were announced by EACC Chief Executive Officer Abdi Mohamud, who highlighting several key transfers and appointments within the commission.
What changes were made within EACC’s leadership?
Among the notable changes, Paschal Mweu, previously director of investigations, has been reassigned to head the ethics and leadership directorate. In a direct swap, John Lolkolai has taken over as the new director of investigations.

Other changes include Deputy Director of Asset Tracing George Ojowi being posted to the South Nyanza regional office, where he will serve as regional manager.
Meanwhile, South Nyanza Regional Office Manager Ignatius Wekesa has been recalled to the headquarters at Integrity Centre and appointed deputy director of forensic investigations.
Deputy Director of Coordination Enoch Otiko has been moved to head the asset tracing unit, while Humphrey Mahiva, formerly deputy director of forensic investigations, has been reassigned to serve as deputy director of coordination.
Gorai Galgalo, previously serving in a different capacity, has been posted to the Kenya Ethics and Anti-Corruption Academy as a senior education officer.
How is EACC restructuring for better efficiency?
Mohamud described the moves as part of routine management rotations aimed at boosting efficiency and improving the commission’s overall performance.
He emphasised that the reshuffle is intended to better position staff in roles where they can have the most impact on anti-corruption work.
The management changes come at a time when EACC has intensified its operations to tackle corruption across the country.
In 2024 alone, the commission handed over 35 title deeds valued at KSh 5 billion and cash assets worth KSh 511 million to the National Treasury, highlighting the growing importance of asset recovery in curbing graft.
With these strategic changes, the EACC signals its determination to continue targeting corruption while ensuring that its internal structures are optimised for maximum effectiveness.

Did Steve Ogola’s testimony strengthen Mike Sonko’s defence?
In a related development, Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko received a lift in his corruption case after lawyer Steve Ogola testified that no public funds were lost.
Appearing before the Milimani Anti Corruption Court, Ogola said both the original and amended charge sheets failed to show any loss of public money.
Ogola told the court that the nature of the charges had shifted from alleged loss of public funds to private funds, making them legally weak. He added that his client, Danson Muchemi, never filed any complaint against Sonko, further weakening the basis of the case.
Sonko had applied for Ogola to be summoned as a witness, arguing his evidence was key to understanding how investigations and charge sheets were prepared.
