Somalia – There has been a tense moment after a passenger plane carrying 55 people crashed into the Indian Ocean just moments after take-off.

Somalia’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) confirmed that the Starsky Aviation Ltd aircraft crashed shortly before takeoff at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu.
How did the Starsky aircraft crash in Indian Ocean?
The BBC reported that the crew of the aircraft, a Fokker 50, reported a problem shortly after takeoff from Mogadishu on Tuesday, February 10, and requested that the plane return.

According to aviation officials, the aircraft touched down but overshot the runway, coming to rest in shallow water.
Witnesses on Jasiira beach reported seeing the plane fly low, skip across the water, and land on the shoreline.
StarSky spokesman Hassan Mohamed Aden issued a statement confirming that all passengers were rescued safely.
He thanked the pilot for making a bold decision that ensured everyone’s safety.
“We are relieved to confirm that all passengers and crew are safe. Investigations are underway to establish what caused the technical issue that led to the emergency landing. The pilot’s swift and calm decision-making played a decisive role in ensuring the safety of everyone on board, and we commend him for how he handled the situation,” Aden said.
Aden added that the aviation authority has launched a formal investigation to determine the cause of the crash.

In a tweet, the African Union’s mission in Somalia said UN and AU troops were swiftly deployed to help with rescue efforts.
“A passenger plane operated by Starsky Aviation Ltd crashed today near Aden Adde International Airport shortly after takeoff. The plane, carrying 50 passengers bound for Guriceel and Gaalkacyo, experienced a mechanical failure approximately 15 minutes into the flight and attempted to return to Mogadishu, where it crashed into the sea. Emergency response teams, including @UNSOS_ and @AUSSOM_ forces, arrived at the scene. The Acting Head of AUSSOM, Ambassador Mouktar Osman Karie, accompanied by senior officials, visited the site and assisted the rescue teams in evacuating the passengers to a safe location,” AUSSOM said.
A video emerged online and was seen by TUKO.co.ke, capturing terrified passengers hopping out of the plane into water.
In the video, one of the plane’s wings can be seen snapped clean off the body of the aircraft. Rescuers were spotted assisting the passengers after arriving at the scene of the wreckage in just minutes.
