The security breach happened at the Jomo Kenyatta Showground, where Ruto was presiding over the disbursment of NYOTA funds to over 5000 youth from the coastal counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Tana River and Taita Taveta.

In May 2025, a man threw a shoe that nearly hit the president in the face during a public address in Migori County.
